Coming back to the dialysis, Let me talk through the process...
So when the kidney becomes dysfunctional, the tasks of kidney are left pending, hence, a thing called cretanine rises in the body as it is not removed(blame the sleeping kidney neurons).
For steps 1 and 3, the first incision was made on my body at the neck(called Line).
Later after my discharge from the hospital A new incision was made on my right chest(called Catheter).
Roughly 3 months later, I was operated again to undergo a surgery for Fistula .
The Line went in
I guess it was done on me when I had no sense of my surroundings. This is how it is placed.
The Catheter comes in too.
A few days into the Line, the docs said I needed a catheter, and you cannot imagine what they put in me! Okay see here. The surgery was not painful, at all.
The Fistula Surgery
This surgery was eventful too!
I remember, there was lot of pain after the surgery, but it went away after 2 days.
The stitches were cut after a week, and I had to get them bandaged and cleaned every 2 days.
There are things to be taken care of after the surgery(roughly 6 weeks)
The reason for getting a third surgery for the fistula was:: the Catherter had developed an infection.
And that infection, cannot be described, what it brought to me... Let me try:
Most of the times, after the dialysis on the catheter, I would come back home burning in 103 degree temeperature! And How I cured it? Total fan on, and simple sitting in it for 3-4 hours.
But that drained all my energy and I was bedridden for 1.5 days after that,
During the dialysis something weird used to happen: If the infection started attacking the body, I would feel *so* *much* *cold* that no amount of blankets, no amount of winter wear could cure it. It was a weird chill. It lasted for 30 mins and during that time I had to get an air heater fixed on me to make me feel sane!
So thankfully Fistula worked successfully half way, I mean blood was taken out from catheter but returned back via Fistula.
After couple more dialysis, finally one day, the complete dialysis happened via Fistula! Phew!
Saying B-bye To Catheter.
As the fistula was working fine, the removal of catheter was a scary surgery as I remembered its insertion was not a problem, but the removal of the Neck Line was super-duper painful!
So I was on the make-shift OT. And I was told that anaesthesia will be used and I will not feel much.
But then: It was super-duper-ultra painful!

- Blood taken out from the body
- Cleaned from cretanine + sodium + potassium +urea etc
- Blood returned to the body

The Fistula Surgery
This surgery was eventful too!
- I was in OT for the first time
- While I was operated, I did hear someone listening to FM(yes in OT)
- There was a hiccup, I have thin nerves, so finding an appropriate spot was hard, the doc gave up the left hand then finally did the surgery on right hand with 80% changes of the thing working!
I remember, there was lot of pain after the surgery, but it went away after 2 days.
The stitches were cut after a week, and I had to get them bandaged and cleaned every 2 days.
There are things to be taken care of after the surgery(roughly 6 weeks)
- Not lifting anything heavy
- Not watering the spot
- Not putting any pressure on the hand while sleeping!(Papa deviced a wonderful way here, I tucked my hand inside the open end of the pillow-cover with the pillow. It comforted my hand and whenever I moved it while asleep, the pillow signalled my hand, dude -- be careful!)
